Roper Scientific iLas2 from BioVision Technologies

Dual Laser Illuminator for TIRF Microscopy and Simultaneous Targeted Laser Action

The iLas2 system is a unique multi-application device that offers complete control over any other laser illumination. It provides researchers the ability to manage and modify the position and focalization of laser light in real time.

It supports TIRF microscopy, FRAP, uniform wide‐field laser illumination with limited background signal, photoactivation, and photoablation.

It works closely with MetaMorph acquisition software, configuring the Multi Dimensional Acquisition dialog to acquire images according to the protocol established within iLas2.

TIRF

Total Internal Reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy is particularly useful for observations close the coverslip surface as it provides the highest axial resolution available. This technique covers a large field of applications, such as single molecule tracking, interaction at the cell membrane level or actin filament behavior.

FRAP

The iLas2 system is a solution designed to perturb the intracellular dynamics of proteins and other macromolecular complexes via FRAP (fluorescence recovery after photobleaching), photo‐conversion, un‐caging, and photo‐ablation experiments. It is a modular system which includes a galvanometer‐based optical head, the associated electronics and a software pack powered by MetaMorph acquisition software. It uses illumination paths of conventional research microscopes and is compatible with 3‐D widefield microscopy, a spinning disk confocal system, and Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence microscopy. Combined with a 3‐D sectioning devices, 3‐D acquisitions and photo-perturbation are possible.
